The option to buy additional pension contributions (APCs) was introduced for the new LGPS from April 2014. APCs replace the previous additional contributions known as additional regular contributions.
A member can purchase any amount of additional pension up to a maximum amount each year. This amount is increased each April by Pensions Increase Orders and the additional pensions’ calculator (see link below) confirms the current years maximum.
There are 2 types of APCs:
- Buying additional pension
- Buying ‘lost pension’
Both types of APCs use the same factors for calculating the cost and are payable in the same way. Please see the guides below for more information:
