Additional Pension Contributions (APC) / Absences

The option to buy Additional Pension Contributions (APCs) was introduced for the new LGPS from April 2014. APCs replace the previous additional contributions known as ARCs (Additional Regular Contributions).

A member can purchase any amount of additional pension up to a maximum amount each year which is increased each April by Pensions Increase Orders. The maximum additional pension purchase limit for 2019/20 is £7,026 from 1 April 2019.

There are 2 types of APCs:

  • Buying Additional Pension
  • Buying ‘Lost Pension’

Both types of APCs use the same factors for calculating the cost and are payable in the same way. Please see the below factsheets for more information.
