Firefighters Pension Schemes

Welcome to the Firefighter Pension Scheme area of the Peninsula Pensions website.

As a serving firefighter, deferred member or a pensioner, we hope that you will find the content of this area informative.

The Firefighters Pension Schemes for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service is administered by Peninsula Pensions, Devon County Council.

In addition, we also administer the Firefighter Compensation Schemes  (Injury).

We have a specialist benefit team who are responsible for the work performed on behalf of all members of the pension scheme. The work includes general administration, address amendments, name changes, requests for scheme literature, transfer requests and calculations & payment of retirement benefits.

This area has been separated between the Fire Pension Scheme 1992 (FPS) and the Fire Pension Scheme 2006(FPS 2006), introduced on 6 April 2006. Each scheme is a national arrangement and is controlled by a regulatory framework.

Firefighters who started their fire service on or before 5 April 2006 will have joined the FPS, unless they opted not to do so. The FPS 2006 came into effect for new entrants on 6 April 2006. Members of the FPS were given the option to either remain in their current scheme or transfer their benefits to the FPS 2006 under special terms.

For details of both the firefighters pension schemes and the compensation schemes, please follow the links on the left hand side.
